In John 16:33, when Jesus said “these things” to the apostles, He was foretelling His death and resurrection, and providing assurance for them not to be afraid or worried – He would still be with them (through His Holy Spirit). His death on the cross meant taking on the sin of the world! He overcame Satan’s curse of death on our behalf. Because of this, we are righteous in God’s eyes and have the gift of eternal life with Him. This promise is as true today as it was then, and that is something for which to give all praise and glory. Jesus has overcome!
